This highly interactive and practical workshop will provide you with an introduction to podcasting, what it is, how it works, who’s listening, what you need to set up a podcast including the kit to record and edit and the editorial processes you should put in place.

There will be an opportunity to plan out your own podcast, try out recording equipment and editing software and receive feedback on your podcast ideas.

What is a podcast?

  • Podcast – a definition (what a podcast is and what it isn’t)
  • How podcasts are consumed
  • A brief history of podcasting
  • Why podcasts are becoming so popular

 

The kit you need

  • What equipment you need to record
  • Editing software options
  • Where and how to host your podcast

Thinking through your podcast

  • Format – monologue, interview, co-hosts, episode and series length
  • Content – what’s my podcast about?
  • Identifying your audience
  • Scripting and preparing
  • Processes, procedures and workflow
  • Presenting – being a good presenter

Recording and editing

  • Recording yourself and/or a guest (opportunities to take and pitfalls to avoid)
  • Basic editing (how to edit and how much to edit)
  • Practical session – have a go at recording and editing

Promoting your podcast

  • Using social media to grow an audience
  • Taking time to review and improve
