Due to the coronavirus pandemic, Cats Protection’s annual National Cat Awards had to be postponed, instead turning into a virtual event – the Alternative Cat Awards. With the glitz and glamour put on hold, the feline welfare charity needed to find a way to cut through the Covid-19-dominated news cycle and gain coverage for their event and sponsors.
PA Media worked with Cats Protection on Press Release Distribution, with the charity joining as a press release partner. A release about the Alternative Cat Awards finalists shortlist and public vote, along with several images, was sent on the PA Media newswire to close to 6,000 journalists and 120 different media organisations.
Due to the press release and a subsequent story on the PA newswire, the charity received fantastic coverage. Katy Geary, acting head of media relations at Cats Protection, said: “It surpassed our expectations. The PA Media press release distribution helped to make the Alternative Cat Awards a huge success with over 350 articles and a 1.2 billion reach from the press release and the coverage from PA.”
