Press Association photographer wins British Press Award for the second year running

World leaders have their picture taken at the start of the G20 Summit in London.Press Association photographer Stefan Rousseau has been named as Photographer of the Year at last night’s British Press Awards, for the second year in succession.

Recognised as the Oscars of British journalism, the judges praised Rousseau’s versatility and technical skill at capturing the news picture that matter.

His winning portfolio featured world leaders at key moments such as Prime Minister Gordon Brown and an emotional Sarah Brown during a visit to Auschwitz, the Nazi concentration camp in Poland; the Queen as she waited for her train to depart at King’s Cross Station in London on her way to Sandringham to spend Christmas with her family and a candid shot of Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi with US President Barack Obama and Russian President Dmitry Medvedev at the G20 Summit in London.

Surprised with the award, Rousseau said: "I didn’t think it was possible to win the award twice so it was a huge shock and a great honour. The photos that were shortlisted have been interesting to take. They capture the different emotions of world leaders that are often not seen.”
