Liverpool FC signs up Edit.TV to provide fans with the latest viewing technology

Liverpool Football Club has become the first major sporting organisation to provide its fans with the ability to create personalised match highlights.

The Premiership club has signed a contract with Liverpool video search and navigation company Edit.TV for its YourSportTV application.

The cutting edge technology – which is backed by 17 patents – will be available to subscribers to the Liverpool FC TV website.

Fans accessing the www.liverpoolfc.tv site will be able to search, edit and tag video content to suit their specific requirements, creating personalised match highlights by player and events.

The signing of Liverpool FC after a successful trial is a major coup for Edit.TV and Press Association Sport, which has come on board as the official data partner of Edit.TV and official re-seller of YourSportTV to global rights holders.
The two companies will work closely together to market the innovative technology – developed over the past decade – to rights holders worldwide including sports clubs and competition owners, online broadcasters and bookmakers.

The fully patented system is available in a wide range of sports and can be delivered in any language required. It is available as a live or video-on-demand platform.

Matt O’Connor, one of Edit.TV’s directors, said: "We are delighted to have signed a contract with Liverpool FC for the 2011/12 season following a successful trialling of our technology.

"Liverpool fans will be the first in the UK to be able to take advantage of the service which we believe will transform the way they are able to watch their team. They will be able to find the specific action footage they want, such as a Gerrard free kick or Reina save, at the touch of a button.

"Our technology synchronises sports data with video footage to timestamp match events. These events are then displayed as icons via a user-friendly control panel and can be viewed on-demand or added to a playlist to compile a sports video showreel."

Andrew Robinson, Head of Digital Media for Liverpool Football Club, said: "We are excited at the prospect of our LFCTV Online subscribers being able to search within and across matches to collate playlists and share with their friends.

"YourSportTV will increase the enjoyment of our fans through its ability to offer a more detailed, analytical, user-driven engagement of match content across domestic and European matches."

While Edit.TV is working with its partner Press Association Sport to market the technology to sporting organisations, it is equally adaptable to the worlds of news, business and entertainment.

The company is already in negotiations with a number of other major organisations – both sporting and non-sporting – with further contract announcements expected in the coming weeks.
