The Press Association has appointed Alan Marshall as its new Group Managing Editor.
In his new role Marshall will work with PA’s newsgathering operations to develop content strategies and co-ordinate processes between editorial content, technology and product development, in order to ensure that PA’s products and services continue to meet the rapidly changing content needs of its customers.
Marshall will also manage editorial projects around major events, including the London 2012 Olympics for which PA is Host National News Agency.
Marshall has held a number of senior roles within PA and was previously Head of Projects, leading PA’s expanding digital content and product teams. Over the past year he has overseen the launch of the PA’s syndicated liveblogging services – including breaking news coverage as well as regular sport commentaries. Prior to PA, Marshall worked as a producer for the Sky News website. He is also a member of the AOP’s Product Development Committee.
Marshall replaces John Spencer who left the company at the end of August.
In recent years, PA has placed an emphasis on providing multi-media news and content for an expanding customer base. In addition to providing news for newspapers and magazines, PA now provides a range of other services including video content for broadcasters, sports data for apps, tailored content for branded websites and live blogs.
Tony Waston, Managing Director, Press Association, commented: “Alan’s strong digital background makes him perfectly placed to take on the role of Group Managing Editor. The requirements of our customers are constantly evolving as consumers find new and innovative ways to consume content, and it is vital that our products and services continue to anticipate these changes. By leading a fully co-ordinated approach across the Group, Alan will ensure that we make full use of all the high quality content we have available, and that it is delivered to customers in a form that suits their needs.”
