Our communications consultants at TNR create and deliver bespoke media training at the Press Association’s headquarters. Every course is written with the specific requirements of the delegates in mind. However, the following gives a good idea of the way a course will work for those being prepared for all three media – press, radio and TV.

Pre-course briefing and research

Before any training course, we will ensure that our trainers are at least as well briefed as any informed journalist would be. We do this by taking a thorough briefing from the client (or their PR Consultancy) and by doing our own desk research.

Training

Press interview by telephone (2 or 3 days before training day)

One of our trainers will call each delegate before the course and conduct a press interview over the phone. This will then be written up into an article which will be handed out and de-briefed on the training day.

On the day

Delegates can expect the following:

  • Two radio exercises (normally one in the studio and one down an ISDN line).

  • Two TV exercises (normally one ‘live’ and one pre-recorded).

  • Debrief on above exercises plus debrief on press interviews.

  • Where delegates have no previous media experience –introduction to how the media works.

  • General interview techniques (e.g. bridging, PEP, CCC etc).

  • Key messages and the most effective way of delivering them.

  • Tour of the Press Association.

Facilities

The London headquarters of The Press Association has fully equipped broadcast studios which ensure that all TV and radio interview scenarios completed during the training are entirely realistic.

Comfortable training rooms are used with audio and video playback facilities and refreshments throughout the day are included in the training costs.
