Murder victim John Brennan

Man killed in 'sustained attack'

A man who was killed in his home suffered a "sustained attack," police have said.

A murder inquiry has been launched into the death of 35-year-old John Brennan at his flat in the Shettleston area of Glasgow on Thursday.

His body was found at the flat in the city's Cockenzie Street after a neighbour raised concerns.

Detective Inspector Graham Cordner, of Shettleston CID, said: "We do not know exactly when Mr Brennan died but suffice to say, it was as a result of a violent attack.

"There were signs of a disturbance in the house so it is possible that people heard something that may pinpoint when this attack took place.

"Mr Brennan, who lived alone, had stayed in Shettleston all his life. He was well known in the area."

Mr Brennan was a regular at the Palaceum Bar in Shettleston's Edrom Street.

Officers have been speaking to local residents and checking available CCTV from in and around the area. They have also carried out forensic examinations at Mr Brennan's flat.

"We are keen to trace his movements prior to Thursday 2 September, so that we can find out where he was, who he was with and what happened," Mr Cordner added. "Mr Brennan died as a result of a sustained attack and we are determined to catch whoever did this. Any information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, can be passed to officers."

An incident caravan has been set up in Cockenzie Street, and anyone with information can call in and speak to officers.
