Teenager charged over knife attack

A teenager has appeared in court charged with attempted murder after a married couple were attacked when they confronted a burglar at their home.

The 37-year-old husband was stabbed and his wife, who is 38, was left with a cut on the wrist at their house in Saucelhill Terrace, Paisley, on Friday.

The husband was treated for serious injuries but both he and his wife have now been discharged from hospital.

Ian Michie appeared at Paisley Sheriff Court charged with attempted murder, assault to severe injury, theft by housebreaking and theft by opening a lockfast place, the Crown Office said.

The 16-year-old, who is from Renfrewshire, made no plea or declaration and was remanded in custody.

Strathclyde Police also said that an 18-year-old man had been arrested and detained in connection with the alleged incident.
