Funeral held for 'great' soldier

The funeral of a Scottish soldier killed in Afghanistan is due to be held.

Lance Sergeant David "Davey" Walker, 36, of 1st Battalion Scots Guards, was killed on February 18 during Operation Moshtarak, a push to purge Taliban strongholds.

Described by commanding officers as a "great comrade and brilliant soldier", Glasgow-born L/Sgt Walker was fatally wounded while conducting a ground patrol which was met with Taliban fire.

A father of five, he lived with his wife Teresa, who is originally from the North West of England.

L/Sgt Walker was also a keen fisherman and fan of Celtic FC.

His funeral will take place at St Alban and the Good Shepherd RC Church in Blackburn.
