The jury in the trial of an elderly motorist who knocked down and killed his wife has been discharged.
William Hippsley, 74, was charged with causing death by careless driving after his 69-year-old wife, Brenda, was struck by his Toyota Prius in a supermarket car park in September 2008.
Mr Hippsley, of Searby, Lincolnshire, denied the charge, saying the tragedy was not his fault and was caused by sudden unintended acceleration.
At Grimsby Crown Court Judge David Tremberg discharged the jury of five women and seven men to await further reports and inspections of the car.
The case will return to court in six to eight weeks.
